   PLEASE READ BEFORE CAMP BEGINS

First Day
Is the most important day of camp, it set the tone for the whole week.
If campers think that camp rules don't apply to them today and that they are successful at pushing our boundaries, the rest of the camp will be about repeating ourselves endlessly, having headaches at night and no voice in the morning.
First day is the day that no misbehavior can be forgiven. All campers must learn to listen at our first request, follow rules and recite them out loud, meet each camper and by name introduce themselves.
Camp is about having fun and learning new things, but not all campers can have fun or learn if a few think that any and all kinds of behavior will be accepted or allowed by us. Be firm. If in doubt, remind them of the rules and the consequences of not following, they can lose playground, pool time or similar privileges for the remainder of the camp week.

First Hours
Be prepared to have a rushed first 3 hours of camp, things move extremely fast especially on the first and last day of camp.
Please arrive early and do not count on having a snack when they do as often, we don't have the opportunity to eat with them as we have other camp duties to attend.

Camp Binder
Will be handled by the dance camp director.
During camp hours, the dance camp director will be handling parents' morning singing up and afternoons signing off, as well as all other Camp Binder related verifications, paperwork, parent calls and messages and reports.

Dance Camp Director

Will be teaching all the recital choreographies, dance techniques and leading warmups. Will also make announcements/ give instructions on our arts and crafts time, pool rules, lunch, classroom rules, playground/outdoors rules and similar. At the beginning of each day the director will repeat to campers all rules and expectations we have for that day.

Camp Assistant

Will support the director to ensure that she accomplishes the camp many daily tasks in a calm, quiet and efficient manner by engaging directly with the campers.

The camp assistant will:

1. Direct campers to keep all their belongings behind the tape, on the bag area only.

2. Hand campers hula-hoops, a ball and paper and markers so they can entertain themselves in between activities.

3. Place the dance spots on the floor, 1 per child, about 4 feet (48 inches apart).

4. Remind campers to keep all their belongings behind the tape, on the bag area only.

5. Engage with campers so they have someone to talk to and help (specially the shy ones) to interact with other campers.

6. Ask all campers to stay quiet and look at me when I begin to speak/give instructions.

7. Remind campers that misbehavior has consequences, to please be kind and patient towards other campers and us.

8. Always keep an eye on campers while they play to ensure they are playing safe and nicely with one another.

9. When time comes for the lunch, pool, outdoor, arts and crafts, remind them to keep their hands to themselves, do not share anything to eat or to put on their bodies with other campers.

10. During dance time, ensure that whoever is not dancing isn't being a distraction to those who are. Keep them out of the "dance floor" and quiet.

The goal is to keep the campers engaged, safe and always learning. Here are some things to keep in mind.

Announcements:

Before the camp director begin to give an announcement, ensure all

Campers are listening and having their eyes on the camp director. That helps announcements to happen faster and with no yelling. This is important especially at some camp locations where we share the camp room/floor with another camp who  has asked us in the past to keep our volume down.

Bathroom Time

Call all that want to use the restroom, wait until all that raised their hands are at the door, do a last call for those who might not have heard you, and then go.

Ensure that all campers are in front of you and that you have your eyes on them at all times. Campers are curious and one in the past have wondered inside a room that it wasn't the restroom. Do keep your eyes on them and them ahead of you.

Pool Time
Director will hand over the pool bracelet passes.

One of us will be in the shallow pool with the young campers and the other will be seated by the bleachers with the non-swimmers. We will find seating closer to the deep-end pool so we can sit with the non-swimmers and also keep an eye on the experienced swimmers.

While checking on the campers in the pool, do not allow our campers to linger in the entrance or by the entrance of the pool. Rec. center sees that as hazardous. If you do see it, immediately remove them from the entrance of the pool and escort them to the middle of the pool.

Playground Time

Before leaving the room, remind campers to apply sunscreen, put on a hat if they have, put their shoes on, grab their water bottle, form a line in the middle of the room and listen up for the announcement/instructions.

When leaving the room, remind campers to walk on their right side, don't scream and to keep all their belongings inside their bags so nothing is left behind nor lost.

Arts & Crafts

After explaining the art of the day, the director will focus on the camp binder, report on camp status, picture taken and other tasks. Please assist campers during this time, but remember them that this is their time to problem-solve and be creative. Ask them to work on their craft themselves.

Keep in Touch
